(06/23/2010) – Anaheim, California – A couple of weeks ago The Disneyland Resort announced a major renovation of its existing pool area at its oldest property, the venerable Disneyland Hotel. While many of the new installations in the pool area will have a retro theme – including a slide through a 1960′s monorail and a vintage Disneyland sign – one decidedly fan-favorite retro piece of theming (that’s actually authentic) is set to be removed: the hotel’s famous waterfall walkways, caves and koi fish pond are all set for demolition later this summer. This area, while not part of the new pool plans, will be converted to a grass field.

While many have bemoaned the removal of this last piece of the original hotel grounds (besides the towers themselves), Disney has made a public ordeal out of relocating the hundreds of koi fish that called this area home since the 1970′s. Just a couple of days ago, Disney rounded up the koi fish and donated them to the Huntington Library in San Marino, California. The facility is world-renowned for its gardens and landscaped areas.

Disney has not set a date for the removal of the waterfalls or cave areas, though they aren’t expected to make it through the summer.
