The California Source > Disney’s California Adventure Guide > Paradise Pier > Silly Symphony Swings
Attraction Type: Wave swinger.
Location: On the western edge of the bay.
General Description: Fly high above Paradise Bay.
Will’s Review: This Wave Swinger attraction, a carnival standard, is themed to the classic Walt Disney cartoon, “The Band Concert”, part of Disney’s “Silly Symphony” cartoon series. The retro Disney characters are capped off by an even more retro Mickey Mouse, who happily stands atop the attraction as if conducting a concert. Guests sit in individual machines as the entire mechanism lifts high off the ground and spins, rotating the swings; centrifugal force sends the swings up to a 90-degree angle at some points in the ride, providing a truly exhilarating experience on the edge of Paradise Bay.
This attraction, which opened in Summer 2010, is a re-theme of the former Orange Stinger attraction (if you visited the park 2009, you might remember seeing a giant 60-foot tall orange sitting on the edge of the bay). While the ride experience hasn’t changed, the new theme does add some Disney character to the park. In addition, the area surrounding the attraction has been re-themed from a barren concrete plaza to a two-level Victorian-era boardwalk.
Touring Tips: Due to this attraction’s cycle-load style, there may be a bit of a wait. If there are more than 30 people in front of you though, come back a little later.
Limited Hours Note: This attraction ceases operation each night one hour prior to the first performance of World of Color.
Warning: Guests who have heart, back, or neck trouble, expectant mothers, or guests who have other conditions which could be aggravated by this adventure are urged not to ride.
Family Info: Basic but great fun, this attraction is enjoyed most by older children and teens. Be sure to note the 200lb weight limit for the ride, and guests must be at least 48” to ride.
Variations: This attraction is unique to DCA.
